[BoulderCouncilHotline] Police Master Plan Process Committee- Please count me in

Dear Colleagues & Community Members,

Please consider me for the newly formed process committee.

I spent hours considering whether I should throw my hat in the ring for the Police Master Plan Process Committee.

I also spoke with Chief Maris over the weekend to find out if joining this Committee would be the most effective way to support her reform plans. What I got from my conversation with the Chief is, no matter what I decide, she will continue to work hard to make community policing safer and more inclusive for all people in Boulder, including BIPOC. I am hopeful for the future of police reform in our community because of the words of Chief Maris. Yet, it is worth noting that I am going into this process (if selected) with great apprehension, because I am not sure if my contribution will be meaningful enough.

Ultimately, after many conversations and my own deliberation, I have come to the realization that joining this Committee is an opportunity to contribute to something meaningful, regardless of the weight of my own personal contribution. The only thing I can promise as I move toward this opportunity is that I will be present to support our staff, and to contribute alongside all the other stakeholders involved in the quest to create a more just and equitable policing system, in Boulder.
