[BoulderCouncilHotline] Interesting thoughts on housing in hot tech markets

Fellow Council members and HOTLINE followers,

The article I have linked below is an opinion piece about housing and job growth in communities with a thriving tech sector. You know, like Boulder (explicitly mentioned in the article)!

Google and Microsoft are investing in bonds that support affordable housing (yay!). But do those bond investments (remember the investing companies make a positive return) fully offset their local impacts? These transactions are not grants, they are investments, but investments, if properly structured, can have positive community benefits. Is Boulder getting the community benefits it needs from its thriving tech sector?

The Boulder City Council is interested in your thoughts as we move into a new year in which we consider community benefits from development, housing policy, and social equity impacts from economic development such as displacement of current residents.
