Colleagues,

As you know, former History Museum and current Chautauqua historian, Carol Taylor served on the committee to write the resolution. Margaret Coel, author of Chief Left Hand, is heavily cited in the resolution.

Three historians, including the two above and Ms. Pettem, would like council to consider the following changes:

In the 4th paragraph, change to: Whereas Southern Arapaho Chief Left Hand ...notified a party of Nebraska gold seekers that they could not remain on Indian land at what is now Settlers Park, but the gold seekers planned to go into the mountains in the spring to search for gold

In the 5th paragraph, remove "thereby not keeping the promise to Chief Left Hand. It should read: ....was founded by settlers on February 10 of 1859, thereby going against the agreement of the 1851 Treaty of Fort Laramie...

Thank you.
