Colleagues - Just a quick update on the continually evolving FasTracks issue. I attended a Metro Mayors executive committee meeting on Thursday at which FasTracks was the main topic. I'll just note that there was considerable concern about the latest "hybrid" proposal from RTD, its lack of detail, total corridor cost, implications for other corridor projects, cost/benefit analysis, etc. For now Metro Mayors will ask RTD to strongly consider waiting until 2014 for a ballot issue, during which time many of the unanswered questions and concerns could be addressed. There is also, apparently, considerable concern in the metro business community (which would fund any FasTracks campaign) about the latest changes, for much the same reasons. I also had a good conversation with Commissioner Toor, who shared many of our concerns and questions, also felt that waiting until 2014 was generally a good idea, but agreed that the hybrid option had many positive attributes and was worth considering. Finally, Phil Washington called me today and we discussed council's reaction and concerns, as well as some additional questions/concerns from Metro Mayors. The US36 MCC will presumably meet again late next week, and is currently working on a new memo to RTD specifically related to the new hybrid proposal; once that is final I'll send out a copy.
