Dear Lisa,

In response to a recent email regarding the disposable bag issue, I wanted to provide you and the Council with an update.

Based on Council's October request to begin working on disposable bag ordinance options, staff is continuing to refine its initial research on best practices in other communities and has begun a stakeholder process. The stakeholder groups include New Era Colorado, Eco-Cycle, Western Disposal, Fairview Net Zero Club and the Boulder Chamber, which has been serving as a liaison between the city and the business community. Meetings with the large grocers and the public are scheduled to occur in March and April.

The current timeline involves the following

(a) By late April:  present policy options to the Environmental Advisory Board (EAB);
(b) Prior to Council's summer recess: present ordinance options to Council for direction; and
(c) Following Council's summer recess: complete the review and adoption process.

Please feel free to contact Jamie Harkins at harkinsj at bouldercolorado.gov<mailto:harkinsj at bouldercolorado.gov> if you have any questions.

Thank you.
