Dear Council and Hotline followers,
At the council meeting last Thursday, a discussion item was added at the end of the agenda that covered councils' desire for further inclusion in the community engagement for the day service and navigation center. I listened to the council meeting this morning and reached out to our City Attorney, Teresa Tate, to hear her input on council participation options. I also heard a desire from several council members who were interested in participating in some form.
We have two public meetings which are scheduled for Wednesday 8/24- 5-6:15pm and
Friday 8/26- 12-1:15pm. These stake-holder meetings are open to the public and we would like to hear from various groups, the faith community, businesses or other entities that are engaged and have input into the services, goals and outcomes for this center. We will also be engaging with individuals with lived experience through an outreach process as well as a meeting with service providers to discuss with them and each other about ideas to shape the direction, services and approach of this center. You had also requested the names of the service providers, which I have listed below.
I would like to suggest that this topic be added to the agenda on this Thursday, August 18th. I would also suggest that the two public meetings are open to any council member who would like to attend and listen to the community input. This is similar to other public meetings we have had on items like ADU's or Alpine Balsam where council members will often stop by to hear the public input.
In addition, in hearing the input from the council discussion on Thursday, I would suggest that council appoint two members to a "process committee" for the direction of the day service navigation center. This process committee could meet on a regular basis as needed to help guide the process in establishing and siting a day service and navigation center. This committee would work very similar to that which was set for the Police Master Plan. These were public meetings that were attended by staff, the two council members and observation by the public.
