Subject: Re: Questions Regarding CU Fall Re-opening

Hi Mary:

Thank you for your questions regarding CU Boulder's plans for the fall. See your questions and our answers below. We can also discuss them tonight if you like.

Kind Regards, Frances

  1. Essential workers with lower paying jobs have proven, time and again, to be the most vulnerable to contracting COVID. To what extent will they be tested with the same rigor as students and faculty?
We're planning to offer testing for faculty and staff identified as at risk through campus contact tracing, and this includes our essential workers. We also expect that individuals in positions that are at higher risk will be part of the campus's ongoing monitoring. We are still working out the testing availability and protocol for the campus community. And there are other measures in place to protect employees such as notifying employees who are in close contact with someone who has tested positive or is presumed positive so that they can quarantine and monitor symptoms. Employees can also access testing through their health care provider.
2. How will paid sick leave be administered (will all staff receive same amount)?
The Family First Coronavirus Response Act provides 80 hours of paid leave to anyone who has Covid 19 or who has been in close contact with anyone who has tested positive and is directed to quarantine for 14 days. Beyond that, an employee's sick leave applies. Regular staff and faculty receive paid sick leave per state personnel board rules and Regent Law. Recent state legislation also provides sick leave to students and temporary faculty and staff. HR is available to consult with employees and supervisors about their leave options.
3. In what languages, other than English, will the health questionnaires be available?
A: The employee health questionnaire is in the process of being translated into five languages: Spanish, Nepali, Mandarin, Tibetan, Laotian. For employees speaking other languages, there is a morning check-in with their supervisors to complete the health questionnaire.
4. What accommodations will be made for staff members who may not have the resources to safely quarantine?
A: Our Employee Relations team works to connect employees with resources they may need. The first step would be for a staff member to speak with Employee Relations and review what options are available including filing for relief through the staff and faculty emergency fund.
