[BoulderCouncilHotline] Winter long severe weather shelter

Hello council members, staff, and hotline followers. I wanted to give a quick heads up that I would like our discussion of homeless services tonight to include consideration of keeping severe weather shelter open throughout the winter season. Currently, SWS is only open when the temperature is 32 degrees or below, or 38 degrees if it is snowing or raining, but temperatures in the mid thirties or even the forties can still cause hypothermia and death. My understanding is that the additional cost of keeping SWS open throughout the season would be a small increase to our homeless services expenses and can be accommodated within our current budget.

I look forward to the discussion tonight.

Best,

Aaron Brockett
