I would suggest one other question: one rationale for this expansion is to reduce shooting on County land by providing a new, expanded facility. Is there any evidence that such shooters will actually stop shooting on County land and gravitate to an expanded BRC?

We have received a goodly number of emails concerning the proposed Boulder Rifle Club expansion. Issues flagged include:



  *   Hazardous waste onsite or adjacent (which could be disturbed by construction)
  *   Excessive noise
  *   Stray bullets impacting nearby homes and trails
  *   Proximity to OSMP
  *   Impacts on wildlife
  *   Attracting hundreds of additional firearms/week to Boulder (including assault weapons if exempted from Boulder’s assault weapons ban during transport to/from rifle ranges)



For Council Members like myself trying to figure out if it’s appropriate to weigh on this issue as individual Council Members (or whether to ask if the Council would want to collectively weigh in), I am hoping that staff can answer:



  *   What is the current timeline / upcoming decision-points for the County on this topic?
  *   Is the hazardous waste a potential environmental threat if the expansion moves forward?
  *   Is the expansion likely to have negative impacts on OSMP / user experiences (stray bullets, wildlife impacts, noise, etc)?
