Council Colleagues (including those who will join us soon):

First, let me say that I intend to vote for Sam Weaver to be Boulder's next mayor. Sam has been an outstanding council member during his six years of service to our community, including during this last year, as he served as mayor pro tem. Sam will be an excellent mayor and we are fortunate to have his leadership.

Second, allow me to express my interest in being elected as mayor pro tem. I have learned much during my first four years on council, and this week I was honored to receive from the voters the opportunity to serve another four years. I would like to build on what I have learned so far, and to provide leadership and guidance as Boulder's mayor pro tem.

Finally, indulge me in my prediction that this next council will serve our community very well. Each one of you brings experiences, perspectives, and skills that our community needs as we move forward into a new decade of hope and promise. I look forward to the opportunity to serve alongside each of you.

Best,

Bob

Subject: Interest in serving as Mayor

Fellow Council Members and HOTLINE followers,

First off, congratulations to Bob Yates and Aaron Brockett on their respective re-elections! And congratulations to Rachel Friend, Junie Joseph, Adam Swetlik, and Mark Wallach on their election to Boulder City Council. I look forward to serving with each of them as well as the incumbents Mirabai Nagle and Mary Young. I think this is going to be a very good Council indeed.

I wanted to express my interest in serving as the mayor of Boulder. Following in the footsteps of Suzanne Jones will be no small feat, but I would like to try to carry on her legacy of efficient meetings, balanced community input, and stepping up to big policy tasks.

My priorities will include:

  1. Continuing to increase the housing supply that is affordable to all residents of Boulder.
  2. Implementing the new middle-income housing assistance program authorized by Boulder voters this week.
  3. Creating a deep-dive budget process during this Council term which uses an equity lens to analyze department priorities. (Thanks to Mary Young for this suggested direction).
  4. Being very intentional as a city government about when we engage in long-distance travel, and when we use electronic communications instead.
  5. Continuing to advance the South Boulder Creek flood mitigation process, including engaging our Open Space Board of Trustees and Water Resources Advisory Board as early as possible with those external agencies that will have approval authority (Army Corps of Engineers, EPA, CO dam safety engineer, CDOT, and others).
  6. Continuing forward with legal discovery of the costs and benefits of a municipal electric utility.
  7. Working with the University of Colorado on many shared priorities, including student housing, the new conference center, and sustainable future campus development.
  8. Implementing vigorous traffic safety measures in pursuit of our Vision Zero goals.
  9. Incorporating the many great ideas that will be brought forward by all of the new and returning Council Members.

I appreciate being allowed to serve with all of the great City staff and fellow Council Members who support our residents and our businesses and our local environment.

I welcome your consideration of my interest in serving the community as mayor.

All the best,

Sam Weaver
