Dear Council

One other item I raised at last year’s retreat which seemed to have support from council and I was under the impression would occur last year 2018, addressed issues or needs related to our sister cities plaza, activating the plaza for all residents and visitors. At the same time and in concert with the plaza was putting the front door(s) to the muni building back at originally constructed. The city requires all buildings to have front doors so why not our muni building? Additionally our city policies encourage residents and the city to lower our greenhouse gas emissions by walking, riding the bus, or biking. For pedestrians and bus riders, the shortest and most direct entrance to the muni building is in front, not through the parking lot in a back door.

I’ve been told it was decided to not implement this last spring during renovations due to projected shortfall in our budget projections which were never realized.

Issues or features on the sister cities plaza to discuss (in a future study session) or even included in an IP are:

1. Sister city signage
2. Sister cities flags posted
3. Front door and activating sister cities plaza
4. Design of sister cities plaza with at least 2 more tiles for our newest cities, Ramat HaNegev and Kathmandu -- space for additional future tiles would be included.
5. Cost of these items and front door(s)

Thanks.

"We interact with one another as individuals responding to a complex haze of factors: professional responsibilities, personal likes and dislikes, ambition, jealousy, self-interest, and, in at least some instances, genuine altruism. Living in the here and now, we are awash with sensations of the present, memories of the past, and expectations and fears for the future. Our actions are not determined by any one cause; they are the fulfillment of who we are at that particular moment. After that moment passes, we continue to evolve, to change, and our memories of that moment inevitably change with us as we live with the consequences of our past actions, consequences we were unaware of at the time."
