[BoulderCouncilHotline] Towing Ordinance

I am attaching a revised version of the towing ordinance with amendments suggested by council member Yates.  The revisions are highlighted in yellow.  The amendments would make the following changes:


  1.  Notice to owner: Require the towing company to provide notice of the tow to the registered vehicle owner, at a minimum by mail (and by phone if this information is available). This notice should be sent within 24 hours after the tow. The name and address of the registered vehicle owner is available to the towing company.
  2.  Notice to police: Require that the towing company provide notice to the police within 24 hours.
  3.  Proceeds of sale: Cap the amount of storage fees at the amount charged for 30 days; and (b) require that, if there is a sale of the vehicle, the proceeds of sale (if any) over the tow and 30 days of storage be held in trust for the benefit of the owner, who can claim the excess amount at any time.
