"Council Member Cowles asked me to post this to the Hotline, since he does not have access to it today:

"I would like the council at the meeting next week to consider renaming the Charter's "assistant to the mayor" from Deputy Mayor to Mayor Pro Tem. This would enable the Mayor more easily to share the responsibility attendant on representing the City when the request is made for the Mayor.

"As a separate matter, I would like the Council at the meeting to consider making the Mayor Pro Tem a rotating position of three months, which would mean one three month rotation for each Council member during a two year term.

"The above two changes would change the Council Rules. If the Council does not want to change the Rules with a vote next week, the Council could ask the City Attorney to bring back language for our consideration that would implement the change subsequently."
