At this point I have nearly eleven years of service under my belt with the City of Boulder, starting with five years on Planning Board (including two years as chair) and now six years on the City Council (including one as Mayor Pro Tem). In that time I have become very familiar with how the city works along with its foundational documents -- the city charter, the Boulder Valley Comprehensive Plan, and the Boulder Revised Code. I have worked extensively with city staff in all departments, and know well the policies and procedures that guide the city organization, and I have served on numerous council sub-committees. I also think I can run an effective and efficient meeting where the voices of all council members are heard  -- my time as chair of the Planning Board was excellent training for this.</div> <div style="font-family: Calibri, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"> <br> </div> <div style="font-family: Calibri, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"> One of the important roles the Mayor plays is as Boulder's representative across the region, the state, and even beyond. I have done much work in this area, most significantly as the city's representative to the Denver Regional Council of Governments for the last six years. There I have worked with council members, mayors and county commissioners across the region to collaborate on crafting transportation policy and making decisions on how to spend hundreds of millions of dollars of Federal transportation funds. I also spent a year as the city's representative to the Mile High Flood district, and 2-3 years each on the State Highway 119 and State Highway 7 working groups. Transportation funding questions are likely to be very relevant for the next two years with the recent passage of the Federal infrastructure bill and the real possibility of Front Range Passenger Rail that passes through Boulder. The relationships and experience I have built on all of those organizations will help ensure that Boulder's voice and values will be influential in conversations on the regional stage.</div> <div style="font-family: Calibri, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"> <br> </div> <div style="font-family: Calibri, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt; color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"> But most importantly, I will do my best to represent the entire Boulder community. I will work with and collaborate with all of the other council members on policy decisions about the many challenging issues that face our city. That's not to say there won't be policy disagreements or split votes on issues, or decisions that some community members disagree with. Those are inevitable and a healthy part of our representative democracy.
