[BoulderCouncilHotline] ARPA for the Arts

Dear Staff, Colleagues, and Hotline Readers,

I believe the arts community is still not out of the woods from the financial adverse effects of the pandemic on our musicians, dancers,  artists and arts organizations. These ARPA funds are a one-time opportunity to help individuals and organizations in our arts community recover.

I would like to increase the $150,000 of ARPA funds we are allocating to the arts community to $250,000.  To fund this increase, I suggest that $100,000 of the $2,750,000+ allocated for the Guaranteed Income Pilot Program be shifted to arts recovery in 2023, increasing the ARPA allocation for arts recovery from the $150,000 proposed by city staff to $250,000. The Guaranteed Income program is not starting immediately and is still being studied. Reallocating $100,000 in ARPA funding for immediate support to the arts community will still allow us to backfill for the income program in a 2023 adjustment to base.

I plan to propose this at our City Council meeting this Thursday night.
