[BoulderCouncilHotline] Addressing the hot weather

Dear Hot Line followers and community,

Some community members have been asking about resources available during these hot days.  All Recreation Centers are open and the lobbies are normally available to all as a place to cool down.  Below is further information that you may find helpful.

Extremely hot days, typically temperatures over 90 degrees for more than two days, mean that our bodies must work extra hard to maintain a normal temperature.  Vulnerable populations such as older adults, children, and those with medical conditions are at greater risk to the effects of extreme heat. Heat-related illnesses include heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Ways to manage days with extreme heat include:

  *   Finding locations with air conditioning
  *   Avoiding strenuous exercise
  *   Wearing light clothing
  *   Drinking plenty of fluids
  *   Check on older adult family members and friends who do not have air conditioning

Remember never to leave an adult, child or pet in a closed car. Residents should also be aware that the Recreation Center Lobbies are open to the public as well as our Library, which can be a reprieve for residents to get out of the heat.
