Council Colleagues:

I thought it was powerful when Democrats in the U.S. Senate earlier today paused for 8 minutes and 46 seconds in a memorial for George Floyd and others killed recently in senseless acts of violence. This unbearably long period is, of course, the time that a police officer knelt on the neck of Mr. Floyd, killing him.

I would like us to consider starting our city council meeting next Tuesday with the same 8 minute and 46 second silence, to honor Mr. Floyd and others like him who have lost their lives because of the color of their skin.
